Dottie has been painting and drawing most of her life. In 1990 she started taking classes in decorative painting.

She started to paint to sell at local Arts & Craft Fairs, which led to producing her own pattern packets in 1997. She has since published over 100 pattern packets and booklets, along with 4 books.

Dottie became a Helping Artist with DecoArt in 1999 and continues with this to present time. She is also a Traditions Teacher using the Traditions line of paints from DecoArt.

She has been a member of The Society of Decorative Painters since the early 1990’s.

She has had designs published in Decorative Painter, Quick & Easy Painting, and Create & Decorate.

She has won numerous blue ribbons for her gourd art at the Kentucky Gourd Society Fair.

Dottie is a member of The Kentucky Gourd Society and The American Gourd Society.

Recently she won Best of Show in the Gourd category at the West Virginia State Fair for her Snowman & Bluebird Birdhouse (available as a pattern #295).
